At the beginning of the new year, the global LCD TV panel market entered the off-season of panel stocking and had sluggish demand. The market pattern has changed significantly, and the overall shipment in January has dropped MoM sharply. On the one hand, the early spring is the off-season for stocking up. The game between the set and panel makers intensifies, and the lack of confidence in brand stocking affects the weak purchase willingness of the set makers in January. On the other hand, the supply pattern of panel makers has further converged. Due to the long-term low panel prices, the pace of strategic transformation of Korean makers has been accelerated. After SDC 22Q1 closed the production line, LGD also closed the P7 production line and significantly lowered the UT of the Guangzhou production line in 2023; at the same time, CEC had no TV panel capacity contribution in 2023. Therefore, although Chinese panel makers will gradually fill in the capacity gaps that have been withdrawn, the changes in the pattern still have a significant impact on the supply in 23Q1. Overall, due to the influence of internal and external factors in the panel market, the shipment level in January dropped significantly MoM. According to Sigmaintell's research data, global LCD TV panel shipments in January were 17.08 M pcs, down 22.6% MoM and 23.4% YoY; the shipment area reached 10.94 M ㎡, down 22.1% YoY and 23.8% MoM.
