2021 is the first year of the concept of the metaverse. With the stimulation of the metaverse heat and the comprehensive innovation of technologies such as 5G and cloud computing, the VR/AR market was back in enthusiasm after five years. However, with the launch of Apple's MR products in early 2023, the overall market revenue and average price will be driven significantly higher. The global VR (MR) industry is expected to be about 43 million units in 2026, with 2021~2026 CAGR reaching about 26.4%.
AR end products are still mostly used in military and commercial. According to Sigmaintell’s data, the global AR end device shipments in 2021 was about 280,000 units, an increase of 27% YOY. Driven by giants such as Apple, Meta, Google and others in the future, the AR end market size will grow apparently, and the global AR Head Mounted Display revenue is expected to reach about US$14.3 billion by 2026, with a 5-year compound growth rate of about 153%. In the medium and long term, AR application scenarios are more extensive than VR, and AR is even expected to replace smartphones as the next generation of mobile devices, which will have broad prospects.
